Liu Zhen
Liu Zhen studied contemporary painting techniques at Sichuan University in Chengdu with Cheng Cong Lin (程丛林), a prominent contemporary Chinese artist now working in Berlin. She is a new voice from a long tradition of prominent woman painters from Sichuan, China.
Liu Zhen's paintings hover between abstraction, expression and representation with canvases that hold countless rigorous yet carefully made marks. These works exhibited with Gallery XIV are from her ongoing 'Bicycle Paintings' which have been particiularly noted by critits for "capturing Red China's great momentum and paradigm shift. Liu Zhen is a young master of process and abstraction with an unusual sensitivity for light, space and movement."
